  1. DARGHUD'S DOLL - A scratchboard drawing, size 8.5 x 11. It appears in the book, "The Compleat Crow," by Brian Lumley, published by Ganley in 1987

The terrible thing about a "Lie" is that it can be stronger than the "Truth," if you believe in the "Lie". If the doll in the voodoo man's left hand was made to represent you, can he cause you harm if you do not believe in voodoo?

I don't believe in Voodoo any more than I believe in magic. But holy cow, it is estimated that there are over 50 million followers of Voodoo worldwide! It started in Africa a very long time ago and has spread to Haiti, Brazil, Jamaica, Cuba, and New Orleans, and just about every country in the world!

Voodoo means "Spirit of God," and it's followers believe in one all-powerful God who created everything but is not involved in human daily activity. They also believe in spirits called "Loas". There are many Loas, each one specializes in some particular human affair, with the power to influence the outcome. The practice of Voodoo involves the blessing of a Voodoo doll by an experienced practitioner who allows the possessor of a doll to contact a Loa directly, to request a personal fulfillment in love, finance, career, Health, family matters, etc., etc.

Hollywood and fiction writers have portrayed Voodoo as something evil, but it's simply not true, Voodoo does not permit human sacrifice, in fact it is against using Voodoo to harm a human being! So, putting a pin into a Voodoo doll to torture or kill someone is condemned by Voodoo practitioners. But every belief system has its extremists, so there are probably rogue Voodoo practitioners who do contact a Loa for someone wanting revenge against another human.

And, would you believe it, You can buy a Voodoo Doll, with Pins, at Walmart!
